Heading out the door
The coat rack by my front door
Nudges me to wear
My brown jacket
And offers me my umbrella
Wondering why
I just
Reach for both
Throw on my jacket and
Jet out the door being
That I'm more than a little
Late
Traffic being the whore that
She is comes on thick and
Leaves when almost arriving
A chill in the air whispers
Your name and goose bumps
Pop making me put on the
Jacket I'd forgotten all about
Reaching the door my blind date
Grimaces then turns to a smile
When she notices the flowers in
Tow
She invites me in because she
Says she still needs to finish getting
Ready
Sensing a lie I smile wide
I sit on her couch and wait while
Her dog stares at me with eyes of disapproval
She asks me questions through her closed door
Small talk usually aggravates me but in this case her voice soothed my nerves
As she walks out the door
I notice she has changed completely
And her radiant beauty has brought back
My nervous energy back with a vengeance
Making me feel all shades of inadequate
At this point we run out the door and walk
To my car I open the door for her
And notice her surprise
I walk around the back of my car
And enter as smoothly as possible
During the drive we talk and start connecting
On levels unimaginable
My nerves dissolve
Thinking
Her persona is actually better than her looks
Shocking
Me
Since she is hotter than the surface of the sun
At the very moment that realization strikes
Rain starts pouring down on the roof of the car
Sensing her disappointment
I say don't worry my coat rack made me bring
An umbrella
At first she looks puzzled
Then breaks out into laughter
Thank you coat rack, you've saved me once again
The coat rack by my front door
Nudges me to wear
