The Fight of a Civilian
Every application Asks, Have I served? I’ve lived this life Like I think I’ve should. But, Have I been A fighter in war? Shed blood For my country, Killed the enemy For bombing my shore? I’m a conscientious Objector I’m proud to be A pacifist, Not an aggressor. And I’m against Violence, Against anyone Who impacts the lives Of loved ones, And friends. Who kills, In the name of revenge. So, no! I haven’t fought abroad. I haven’t slit the throats Of the infidels Who threaten My way of life. Because my fight Is at home. My war can’t be won or lost With a single battle, Or military maneuver. I live every day, Every moment, With the consequences Of my actions. Not on the battle field, But in my home, On the street, At my job, As a father, Brother, Husband and lover. So, I strive To live right, To live just, To live by my morals, And dogmas, Of which I was raised. And how I interpret My past and present, Is up to me. I spit what I feel. Say what I mean. And I offend no one But myself, If I choose to Hide, From my demons, Rather than face them, Head on, So you can shove your application, Up your, You know what. Don’t judge me Unjustly, Because I’m no vet, Not a decorated, Ranking officer. Because I support My troops from home. As I fight, The good fight With so much on the line. Without bloodshed. At risk of heartbreak. Or going broke. Or loosing everything. It’s my choice. And I’m living it, Every day, Until I die.
