Predators & Prey
(Or just…Pray)
When I think of the myriad
of cultures created by
animals bent upon seeking
spiritual love and enlightenment,
only to become prey to
societies of bloodthirsty
carnivorous predators, who
seek sustenance by ripping
these peace loving, wisdom seeking
creatures to shreds,
I am turned to tears
by the sadness of such loss.
Yet the spirits of the peaceful
are left to watch in the
wake of such bloodshed,
& though this world is but a
pale reflection of that
plane that waits beyond,
these innocents who have been slain,
who sought but joy and wisdom,
shall stand as the watchers
between worlds, as judges
of such travesties of fate
that the future shall hold.
Yet then I am reminded
of the upper links of the food chain,
and that talon & flesh & blood
are necessary for the survival
of these flesh-eating
predators of nature.
And do these predators feast upon
the weak & dying, or do
they eat the youth
with a side of eggs?
Or perhaps they rip apart
each and every creature
they can possibly devour,
with no thought of remorse;
for them, as they feast upon their kill,
this is the way of nature.
This is the way of life, love & death,
and as the pulse of their prey’s heart slows,
and the beating diminishes towards death,
This twitching carcass
is thrown towards
the young flesh eaters of this
pride, or pack of predators,
as these young beasts shall
learn to slay for their cubs someday.
Love is shared for one’s collective,
Yet for those seeking their own
form of enlightenment, in a culture apart,
they will only be held in high regard from
a different class of beings, as a good meal.
Will you love for your own, kill for your own?
Survival for the fittest. Only the strong survive.
For all else, protect yourself, or hide.
Heed the words of the messenger:
“Through all the bloodshed of this life
redemption comes from one power alone,
and that is the way of love.”
